What is Fuente de los Azulejos

You will find Fuente de los Azulejos in the south-west of Gran Canaria on the GC-200 road, which runs from Mogán to La Aldea de San Nicolás. It is named after the rocks, whose green, blue and ochre layers resemble ceramic azulejo tiles.

The road here winds through hairpin bends, so the drive itself offers beautiful views into the valley. The trip is easy to combine with a visit to Puerto de Mogán.

I recommend visiting from January to March. That is when a waterfall appears here, with pools above it that look truly magical between the colourful rocks.

In winter, bring warm clothes too – it can be cooler up here than by the sea. You will find more about a winter holiday on the island in the article Gran Canaria in winter.

PRACTICAL TIPS

Parking and the path to the waterfall

You can only park along the main road and there are few spaces, so people literally fight over them. It is therefore worth setting off early.

From the main road you then walk uphill along a stony path. Wear sturdy footwear – I do not recommend sandals or flip-flops.

Set off early

There are few parking spaces along the road – the earlier you arrive, the more likely you are to find one.
