Thassos resorts in a practical overview – the differences between the individual places, what the beaches are like and accommodation tips.
Thassos is a small island – the road around it is about 100 km long and you can drive round it in a day. Even so, each part of the coast has a different atmosphere: from busy Potos and the capital, Limenas, through family-friendly Skala Potamia by Golden Beach to the quiet coves around Kinira and Astris or green Skala Rachoni.
Your choice of resort therefore decides what kind of holiday you will have. The overview follows the coast – from the capital, Limenas, clockwise around the island.
Buses run between the resorts; you will find the timetables on the island’s official website (in Greek).
Limenas (Thassos Town) is the island’s capital and port. It combines history, culture and life on the move – you will find the archaeological museum, ancient ruins and a promenade with tavernas and shops. It is the largest and busiest resort on the island, even though at first sight it seems tiny. Ferries run from the port to Keramoti on the mainland. I describe how the ferry crossing works in the article Practical information for your trip to Thassos. I write more about the town in the article Limenas, the capital.
For an evening drink I recommend the Karnagio beach bar at the very end of the headland, with an artificial marble beach – in high season it is worth booking in advance. My favourite restaurant by the port, with friendly service, is Karas. The best supermarkets for shopping are Masoutis and Lidl.
Smaller town beaches right in Limenas. For a full day of swimming, it is worth driving or taking the bus to another part of the island.
modern studios in a quiet spot in a shady olive garden, within reach of the centre, restaurants and supermarkets.
a smaller, pleasant adults-only hotel right by the port, with a view of the sunset and the ferries. Restaurants and supermarkets are nearby and the centre is a short walk away.
a design hotel in the capital with a pool and rooms in different styles; the sandy beach is about 500 m from the hotel.
My very favourite resort, Skala Potamia, lies right by Golden Beach (Chrysi Ammoudia) – one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. The bay lies in the foothills of the highest mountain, Ipsarion, which gives the whole area postcard scenery.
It is an ideal base – Limenas is not far away, and from here you can easily reach the most beautiful places on the island: the mountain village of Panagia, Paradise Beach, Aliki, the Monastery of the Archangel Michael or the Giola natural pool.
A long beach with fine sand and a gradual entry into the sea. Ideal for families with children and for those who want peace and quiet in a well-equipped resort.

for lovers of comfort, luxury and modern design.
quiet studios and apartments with a kitchenette in a truly peaceful Greek atmosphere. You can walk to the sandy beach and the tavernas in a few minutes.
a family resort right on Golden Beach, renovated in 2026, with two pools and an ultra all-inclusive programme.
Kinira is a picturesque, quiet resort on the east coast of Thassos, ideal for relaxing away from the busier tourist centres. It has small beaches with fine sand, crystal-clear sea and several traditional tavernas with local food. Directly opposite lies the uninhabited islet of Kinira.
With a hire car, Kinira is a great base for Golden Beach, Panagia, Paradise Beach, Aliki or the Monastery of the Archangel Michael.
Smaller beaches with fine sand and a calm sea. Paradise Beach is just a few kilometres away.

Astris is a very quiet resort in nature by Astris beach, about 10 km from the nearest fully equipped resort, Potos, and close to the well-known Psili Ammos beach. It suits lovers of complete peace away from busy civilisation.
With a hire car, it is a great base for visiting the most interesting, eastern part of the island – Giola, the Monastery of the Archangel Michael, Aliki, Paradise Beach, Golden Beach and Panagia.

Aeolis’s sister hotel in the same complex on the hill, with equally beautiful views.
a smaller, pleasant family hotel by Astris beach, about 1 km from Psili Ammos. There is a minimarket right next door.
Potos is a busier resort, suitable mainly for young and active travellers looking for a combination of sun, sea and evening entertainment. You will find plenty of bars, tavernas, clubs and cafés where life goes on late into the night. It is also popular for water sports – there are kayak and paddleboard rentals. Potos has a wide choice of accommodation in all categories, from affordable apartments to comfortable hotels.
Tip: a path runs from Potos to Limenaria alongside the main road. If you fancy a walk, stop at the marble zodiac above Metalia beach – ideally in the morning or in the evening at sunset, when it is not so hot.

About 1.5 km from the centre of Potos lies Pefkari – a quiet, picturesque place surrounded by pines, ideal for relaxing away from the main bustle. Smaller family hotels and apartments predominate here, giving the place a cosy, friendly atmosphere. You can easily walk to the busier Potos.
Pefkari is also popular with divers. It is home to the well-known Diver to Diver diving centre, which offers try dives for beginners, boat trips and courses. Right by Pefkari there is a shallow reef, one of the easiest dives on the island – even for first-time divers.
On the main road level with Pefkari there is a smaller Masoutis supermarket; the large one is in Limenas.
A quieter beach surrounded by pines, with crystal-clear water – ideal for snorkelling too.
a luxury hotel with suites, a spa and two pools in a quiet location about 1 km from Potos, around 450 m from Pefkari beach.
an older but very pleasant hotel in quiet surroundings in Pefkari.
a small, quiet family hotel in Pefkari.
Limenaria is the second largest town on the island, with a harbour, a long beach, a promenade, tavernas and shops. In the harbour stands the iconic Palataki, built at the beginning of the 20th century as the headquarters of the German mining company Speidel. The resort suits anyone who wants to combine the sea, facilities and trips around the area.
The quieter Metalia beach in the neighbouring bay is worth a visit; here swimming comes with an atmosphere of industrial history – remains of old mines and smelting works have survived. Above the beach is a lesser-known but magical and romantic spot – the marble zodiac.
About 3 km from here lies the well-known Trypiti Beach, ideal for swimming and relaxing.
A long town beach right in Limenaria, quieter Metalia in the neighbouring bay and sandy Trypiti about 3 km away.

Skala Prinos is a peaceful area with an important port, from which ferries run regularly to Kavala on the mainland. It is one of the island’s two transport hubs and is just under 20 km from the capital, Limenas, which you can easily reach by car or bus.
A great choice for those who want to combine peace and nature with good connections. It offers resorts, apartments and accommodation in nature.
A beach right by the port, and the main beach about 1.5 km from the centre of the town.
a pleasant hotel with helpful staff and a nice beach right by the port. The port and the centre are right on your doorstep.

Skala Rachoni is a smaller, quieter resort in the north-west of the island, between Limenas and Skala Prinos. It lies among greenery, and you will find several tavernas, beach bars and small shops with the basics. It is about 12 km to the port in Limenas, and the port in Skala Prinos with ferries to Kavala is nearby too.
It suits those who want a quiet holiday by the sea and do not need evening bustle. Nearby there is also the popular sandy beach of Pachis.
Sandy beaches right by the resort, and the popular Pachis beach nearby.

On Thassos everyone will find a resort to suit them – whether they are looking for peace, an active holiday or a pleasant setting to relax.
If you mainly want swimming and a relaxed time with children, choose Skala Potamia or Trypiti. For nightlife and water sports there is Potos, for the town and history Limenas, and for complete peace Astris or Kinira.
And because the island is small, with a hire car you can get to all the other places from anywhere.
Trips I recommend as a tour rep. Local agencies list them on GetYourGuide mainly in season. On jeep trips, depending on the group, you may also get to drive yourself.
